Arts and Craft, Mission Tile Frame w/Oak Glen Tiles

”The Story”

I was contacted by Laura Reutter owner of Ravenstone Tiles about 2 weeks ago wanting to know if I would like making a frame for one of her customers that she had done these Oak Glen Tiles for. Of course I said “why yes”, she gave me the customer information and asked if I would give him a call in Kentucky. I came in from my shop to look at the tiles on her web site to see what I had agreed to and before I could get the web site up the gentleman from Kentucky was calling me. He told me had just built a Arts and Craft style home and wanted this to hang in his new home. I sent him some pictures of frames I had made for other Ravenstone Tiles and he liked them so that is how these frames came about.

Now about the frames. The first three pictures are of the Oak Glen Tiles framed for the gentleman in Kentucky. One the third pictured frame I did a cut out on the back so he could see Ravenstones stamp and Laura’s signature. The last two pictures is the same style frame only this one is one that Laura requested for herself. In the 4th picture you can see where I painted the edges of the backer black so when the tiles set in you can’t see the backer. They are made from Quarter Sawn White Oak with mortise and tennon joinery, with 1/4” pillowed ebonized walnut pegs. The spacers between the tiles are also mortised in and are 1/4” wide. The frame itself is made of 2” wide stock. The finish is my three stage finish, water based dye, oil stain and then Lacquered. Long story I know!!!!
