Walnut Arts & Crafts Framed Counted Cross Stitch Rooster

I was asked by my cousins wife to make a frame for this counted cross stitch rooster that she had done. I sent her pictures of different finished woods surrounding the mated cross stitch and she picked this walnut. The frame is constructed with mortise and tennon pegged joinery. The pegs have been ebonized. The finish is satin lacquer and then a dark wax applied. The cross stitch is a beautiful piece in and of itself and took quite some time to do. I was very pleased that she asked me to do the frame.

I learned a lot in framing this cross stitch. To mount the cross stitch it is pinned (with 1” stainless steel straight pins) to a piece of acid free foam core. I used approximately. 200 pins to mount this 13” x 13” cross stitch. It was a fun project even doing the double mat. Thanks for looking….
